The lookout hears the sound of an engine somewhere close by, but nothing can be seen. What should happen?

A. Tell the skipper immediately and try to judge roughly which direction the sound is coming from; slow down further or stop if there is any doubt about the other vessel's position, and keep sounding your own fog signal so they know where you are too

B. Speed up to get away from the sound as fast as possible, regardless of direction

C. Ignore the sound since nothing can actually be seen yet

D. Assume the other vessel can definitely see you on radar, so no action is needed

A. Speed up to get out of the fog area as quickly as possible

B. Carry on at the same speed since fog does not affect a small sailing boat

C. Stop the boat completely and wait without doing anything else

D. Slow down to a safe speed for the visibility, and get the boat's position fixed and written down (from GPS or the last known landmark) right away, before it gets harder to tell exactly where you are
