Why might a Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft (TEMPSC) be considered a "dangerous/enclosed space", and what precaution is needed before personnel board it for an abandon ship drill or emergency?
A. A TEMPSC is a small, enclosed compartment that may have an atmosphere affected by engine exhaust fumes, off-gassing from batteries or stored equipment, or limited natural ventilation, particularly if it has been closed up for a period — so before boarding (especially after the boat has been closed for some time), the space should be ventilated and, where there is doubt, the atmosphere checked before personnel remain inside for an extended period
B. TEMPSCs do not require any precautions as they are open to the atmosphere via the canopy at all times
C. TEMPSCs are dangerous only because of their weight, with no atmosphere-related concerns
D. TEMPSCs are never considered enclosed spaces because they are designed to be occupied
