Why do lithium (LiFePO4) batteries generally handle extended layup differently from lead-acid batteries?
A. Lithium batteries suffer from sulfation in exactly the same way lead-acid batteries do
B. Lithium batteries don't sulfate the way lead-acid batteries do, and generally self-discharge much more slowly — but they still have their own storage requirements (often stored at a partial rather than full charge, and ideally not left at very low charge for extended periods either), so "no maintenance needed" is a genuine oversimplification worth checking against the manufacturer's guidance
