Why do standardised ice reporting terms and symbols (as used in ice charts, navigational warnings, and routine ice reports between vessels) matter beyond simply having a recognised vocabulary?
A. Standardised ice terminology is a matter of academic convention with no practical effect on how a report is understood or acted upon
