A yacht is loaded for a passage with extra water tanks full, 6 crew, full fuel, and provisions. The boat feels sluggish and rolls slowly. What does this indicate and what should be checked?
A. The sluggish feeling is only caused by drag — clean the hull to restore performance
B. The vessel is heavy and has a low initial metacentric height (GM) — slow roll period indicates reduced stability. Check: weight distribution — heavy items should be low and centred, not on deck or in cockpit lockers; crew weight concentrated low in the vessel; water/fuel in low tanks. A slow lethargic roll is not the same as comfortable — it indicates the vessel is close to its maximum designed displacement. Check the designer's maximum displacement rating
C. Overloading only affects speed, not stability — any weight can be carried safely
D. A slow roll means excellent stability — more weight creates more stability in all loading conditions

A. HW time: 1800 + 0020 = 1820 hrs. HW height: 4.8 + 0.4 = 5.2m (add the difference)
