1. What / Why / How

With divers in the water on a subsea structure, a minor PRS quality issue that would warrant a routine check during transit needs a genuinely lower action threshold. Divers physically connected by umbilical can't simply be “paused” the way a non-critical task can — any reduction in position-keeping confidence has a direct, immediate personnel-safety dimension.

2. Recognition / Risk / But

The added risk is umbilical management: unexpected vessel movement risks umbilical strain, entanglement, or the diver being dragged, on top of the vessel's own general loss-of-position risk. But: not every fault during diving justifies pulling divers — assess whether remaining redundancy and current margin genuinely support continuing with increased monitoring, with diving-specific stakes explicitly in mind.

3. Now / What next / Decision / Why

Communicate the real picture to the diving supervisor, not a vague summary — DP and diving are two chains of authority that have to genuinely coordinate, not one silently assuming the other will ask if something's wrong.

4. Consequence / Reassess / Escalate

If the picture worsens, reassess and communicate without delay — the same “new information triggers fresh decision” discipline covered throughout DP Academy, now with divers in the water and an umbilical to protect.

5. Recover / Verify / Human factor

Once divers are recovered, resumption needs a genuine joint reassessment between DPO and diving supervisor — DP status verified, not just alarm-cleared, and diving genuinely ready. Trap: treating resumption as an automatic default once the interruption has passed.
