DP Computer & Network Failure

1. What / Why / How
A DP computer/network fault is different from a sensor or reference fault: it can affect how all other inputs are processed and how thrust commands are actually issued. A fault at this level sits underneath everything else a DPO has learned to check individually.
2. Recognition / Risk / But
An intermittent fault — a backup computer with a communication hiccup, not a full crash — can be harder to characterise than a clean failure: the backup might be silently unreliable for redundancy purposes while still appearing “available.” But: before trusting the primary computer's control fully, check whether primary and secondary genuinely share no common point (network switch, power supply, cabling route) that could put the primary at risk too, just not yet showing symptoms.

Confirmed physical separation with no shared point identified justifies continuing — but with increased monitoring and a lower threshold for acting on any further anomaly. “No shared point identified” describes current understanding, not certainty.
4. Consequence / Reassess / Escalate
A component swap and a functional validation are different things. Before treating full redundancy as restored, confirm the secondary actually processes and responds correctly under real conditions, and look back for any subtle effects the primary may have shown during the fault window.
5. Recover / Verify / Human factor
Because the DP computer/network sits underneath everything else, a fault there deserves a wider assessment than a single visible-symptom fault — not just “is this one thing broken” but “what else might this be quietly affecting.” Trap: treating a computer fault as routine simply because it produced no dramatic symptom.
